According to the molecular arrangement, the liquid crystal can be divided into three types: nematic, smectic, and cholesteric. The cholesteric liquid crystal is flat and arranged in layers. The molecules in the layer are parallel to each other, and the long axis of the molecule is parallel to the layer. In the plane, the long-axis directions of the molecules in different layers are slightly changed, and they are arranged in a spiral structure along the normal direction of the layer. The thread distance of the cholesteric liquid crystal is about 300 nm, which is the same order of magnitude as the visible light wavelength. This pitch varies with the external temperature, the electric field condition, and the twisting force of the liquid crystal. Therefore, the external light can be modulated by adjusting the pitch.
Based on the characteristics of the above liquid crystal molecular materials, Howshow Technology has developed a liquid crystal light blackboard and a light energy blackboard based on the properties of the above materials, and hopes to replace the traditional blackboard, whiteboard, green board and other writing carriers by the application of this material.
The main feature of the bistable liquid crystal developed by Howshow Technology is that there are two steady states without an applied electric field, and both steady states can be stabilized without an applied electric field, thus exhibiting a bright state and a dark state. When the writing film receives a certain pressure, the liquid crystal molecules in the force part will change. Just as I can write or draw on the sand, the stressed liquid crystal molecules will record the pressure trajectory according to the force and the direction of application. When the clear button is pressed, the liquid crystal molecules switch between the bright state and the dark state, thereby achieving the purpose of clearing the writing, so that the system completes a writing process.
In addition to the above advantages, the bistable liquid crystal has the following functions that are difficult to compare with other materials:
First, the power consumption is very low, built-in a 3V voltage, 70mA button battery can be used repeatedly for about two years
Second, the display process does not consume electricity, only use electricity at the moment of refreshing
Third, the number of uses is many, the number of cycles can reach millions of times
